Car companies have not bothered out of relationships with oil companies. We do have technology to be much more efficient. (US) Why did my 1976 Honda Civic get 45 miles per gallon? UNLEADED Why have gas formulations changed to be less efficient? Many people here have pellet furnaces to do the whole hot water and heating thing. Pellets are sawdust capsules made in Canada. They cost between 213.00 per ton and 180.00 per ton. They are made in factories. So, it is obviously very much less expensive then gas, oil etc. But, here is the question. How are these factories run? Are they dependent on oil? Probably so we are right back where we started from. I have friends who have a solar and wind business. They install windmills and solar panels. I don't get why people here object to windmills. They say they ruin the view. Excuse me, power lines are really ugly and people love to hit those poles so they are dangerous too. I just don't understand why we complain about windmills unless those who complain are in bed with oil companies. We have to change our entire way of living to eating local, no imports, carpooling and public transit. People here still don't get it. Yankee independence. Within a mile of me I believe there are at least 6 people who go to the same town each day with similar shifts. Maybe we all have to sacrifice a little convenience and wait for rides and hang out a bit so we can carpool. Walk to the grocery and buy what you need while you wait. I don't see that happening here anytime soon. We are much too independent and greedy. Too bad as it is a serious help. People here are also still mainly driving suvs siting safety. It is more safe because of other suvs. if we all started driving smaller cars it would be more safe to drive them.
In the late 70's early 80's I saw people driving smaller efficient cars. My husband and I used to make a game out of keeping score on trips. The efficient cars had it but not now. sorry so long winded.
