Here's something else to try. I see gratitude as looking back at the good stuff. I also add a hope journal. The hope journal looks at things you want to happen. It could be something as simple as I hope I can get out of bed to I hope I get the new job.

The gratitude list of 5 each day is actually an idea I got from positive psychology research. Can increase a person's subjective level of happiness by ~ 25% over time.
