since you were diagnosed before the DDNOS label became non existant (thrown out and now there is no mental disorder called DDNOS) it would be a good time to talk with your treatment provider about getting a new diagnostic evaluation. by todays diagnostics and labels you will not get diagnosed with DDNOS because there is no label as that any more.
short rundown on what dissociative disorders we have now...
UDD (Unspecified Dissociative Disorder) this is used in emergency situations like in the hospital emergency room. when you see your regular doctors they change this to what you really have.
OSDD (Other Specified Dissociative Disorder) this has many dissociative disorder names. what name you get depends on which diagnostic criteria ........and........other accompanying symptoms you have. you will not know which of the other dissociative disorders you have until your treatment providers diagnose you with that disorder. each number in this disorder has more than one dissociative disorder name that is not listed for the public. treatment providers have a list of disorders for each number you see in the diagnostic criteria and other accompanying symptoms.
when you get diagnosed with this disorder they have to tell you (thats what specified means they have to tell you) which dissociative disorder name you have example one of my OSDD disorders is called macropsia. They can not just tell you, you have OSDD and leave it at that.
the reason they have such strict rules for OSDD is to prevent just anyone being thrown into this disorder willy nilly, melting pot style that NOS disorders did.
there are actually harder stricter standards to get diagnosed this then there is for DID, Dissociative Amnesia, depersonalization/ derealization disorder, and UDD.
Dissociative Amnesia is having a special kind of memory problems because of triggers. it is not things like forgetting where you put your keys, or a book or forgetting your name and whether you went to work yesterday or not. it is a situation where something upsetting has happened to you and as a result you do not remember anything right before that upsetting thing, during that upsetting thing and after that upsetting thing. most do not even know they are having memory problems associated with that triggering event. example someone who has been abused on their loved ones wedding day wont remember there was even a wedding, they wont remember any plans that led up to the wedding, they wont remember the ceremony, the reception. just one day their loved one comes to them with their husband and its like wow you got married cool when did that happen, wow do I have a terrrible memory if I cant remember that lol. Dissociative amnesia is different than physical amnesia. the memory is still there and will come back to them, most later after everything has calmed down and they are no longer triggered. you might say having this by itself, this is a short term thing, it doesnt have a time limit but it heals itself faster than physical amnesia does. eventually a person gains back those forgotten memories.
depersonalization/derealization is feeling numb, spaced out, like things are moving too slow or too fast, sometimes feeling unreal, sometimes feeling the world around you isnt real, but all the while knowing that your body really isnt missing parts or physically numb, knowing things are really the same as they always have been, and knowing though things may feel unreal and and disconnected they always have been and are the way they always have been. and the problems are due to being triggered... example sometimes I feel numb but I know thats my hand, I know my hand is attached to my body and isnt really disconnected from me. I may not feel the world is real but I know the world is real, I may feel unreal but I know I am real.
DID this is having alternate personalities that take control, each has their own sense of agency. some call this possession. the term possession does not mean spirits and ghosts. in some languages and cultures the term possession is used to show ownership of the body ( this is like how if someone get busted for drugs its said they were in possession of drugs. example in my culture we dont say when rainy was out she did this that and the other thing . we say when rainy was in possession of the body she did this that and the other.... another way we word it is when I dissociated (felt numb, spaced out and disconnected because I was triggered Rainy was in possession and ....) a person with this has a special kind of memory problem that is different than normal forgetfulness. the problems with this disorder are not because of drugs and alcohol and other diseases and disorders like not because of weed, or going out drinking or because of having a seizure.
thats what dissociative disorders we have now. there is no longer any DDNOS or equivelent of what DDNOS used to be. they took all the diagnostics for this and split it up into other mental disorders and new mental disorders.
short version one person I know who in the past got diagnosed DDNOS, now with todays diagnostics are diagnosed Schizophrenia, another person who got diagnosed DDNOS in the past is now diagnosed with stress and trauma disorder (new name for PTSD category ) and some that I know that got diagnosed with DDNOs are now diagnosed with DID and still others.... well you get the point. trying to figure this out is something you cant do alone.
if you want to know what your past diagnosis of DDNOS is today you will need to talk with your treatment providers. they will tell you which of todays mental disorders listing of disorders that you now have.
