When I was working with frail elderly people as a nurse, if they had weight loss and poor appetites I'd ask their doctors to prescribe Remeron. It has an off-label use as an appetite stimulant, and boy did it work! It also helped them sleep, and they did better mentally as well because it's an antidepressant and most of them had problems with depression...which usually caused them to eat poorly and have insomnia. A win-win-win all the way around for those it worked for. There were a few who didn't respond to this treatment, but for the most part people did very well.
