Chances are you learned this many years ago and had it reinforced for a long time. Now you are in therapy and can work on unlearning it. It takes a lot of time!

Sometimes I do an "end run" around him, by listening deep for my true feelings and following those, not listening to his inaccurate thoughts. It always helps me to go to the feelings, because they are true, and ignore the skewed thoughts.
