Just because a post or thread gets reported does not mean that thread or post is going to get closed.
its my understanding that threads and posts are removed or closed permanently for two reasons......
1. the first is if the original poster (person who started that thread or wrote that post) asks for the thread or post to be removed. there is a limit of how many times this can happen per member.
2. if the thread or posts violates the sites guidelines/ rules and its not possible for editing to happen by the moderating team (example too many posts in a thread that may be violating the guidelines)
Sometimes threads are closed temporarily and then reopened doe two reasons....
1. so that the moderators and administrators can discuss the thread to see whether there is a chance to save that thread or remove it or lock it, depending upon how many posts in the thread are violating the guidelines/ rules, whether the posts that are violating the guidelines/ rules are able to be removed with out interfering with the main conversation / topic of the thread and whether the topic/ main original post in the thread was violating the rules/ guidelines and just wasnt caught when the thread was started due to moderators and administrators not being on when the thread was started.
2. so that the moderating team can remove any posts that are violating the rules/ guidelines with out having the community continuing to post more postings that may continue with the violations of the rules/ guidelines.
if you read the threads that are closed the moderating team does explain why a thread is being closed. you will see this explanation in the moderating teams notifying post that they are closing the thread.
I have also found pming a moderator when I have a question of why a thread is locked. I dont post asking on the boards because whether a thread is locked or not and why is an administrative issue which is not supposed to be discussed on the boards.
my suggestion is if you find a thread of interest that is locked and you dont see an explaining post by the moderators/ administrators as to why the thread was locked, pm a moderator who can privately explain to why they took that administrative / moderating action.
