I think most of us would like to help some way in society, even if it's offering food to a beggar or working in a soup kitchen. Giving to a charity doesn't have to be money. Instead, offer to do admin for 3 hours a week or help out in a charity shop. In London there is Centrepoint, which helps homeless young people. Or working at a dog shelter. It all helps the common good.

I agree with you about 'real letters' and not 'emails'. I always write in fountain pen and ink, for being a lover of snail mail has always appealed. So good luck in finding what you'd like to do in doing your bit. I think it's admirable.
