You're gonna be the death of me, KJ; I had to find out what "hacked off" meant:

Change your perspective. Get curious as to why you want to drink at "that" particular time (versus 6 hours ago or when you woke or last night, etc.). Nowadays, I'm old enough so I don't feel very well after drinking some; headaches, sleepiness, nausea, etc. and I dislike that more than the original state.
See if you can shift your response to finding/reading a good book or some other activity until some of the urge has passed.
If you live in Texas, USA, it's conceivable you could get arrested:

I've often just gone to bed/sleep, knowing things will look different in the morning/later. If I read up on dreams, I can hope for an "interesting" dream and follow that up (which is all an activity so takes my mind of getting drunk/drugged).
Open all the liquor and pour it down the drain and then forbid myself to leave the house to buy more.
Write.
Plan/fine/execute a good meal instead. Sometimes I'll drink while I'm eating but won't need to get drunk if the food is really good.
A moving target is hard to hit so I keep working/resisting, choosing something else and eventually I outrun the feeling.
