hey dudes,

I am trying to get accepted into a class next year but in order to be i am required to write a short essay saying why i should be. So i wrote this in 10 minutes if you are wondering why it sucks. Let me know what you think though...

Child care and development has been such a proficient and rewarding class to take. I have always known that I wanted to work with children whether through nursing, psychology, or teaching. During the summer I am actually a camp counselor with kids ages 4 – 10 at a Christian camp. By working at the camp I have learned that I have good leadership skills and that I work well with the kids. I decided to take child care because I figured that it could help me to decide if teaching was something I could really handle doing or even enjoyed doing everyday.

There were definitely days where I wondered what I had gotten myself into but the experience I received and the knowledge I got out of the class was so worth it and I really want to continue with it next year. I love working with the children and they inspire me so much. It is so amazing to think that at some point in your life you were that age and now here I am helping these kids to get the most out of their education that they can at this age. I have learned to express an even greater amount of patience by working with the preschoolers and realized that these kids when given the proper attention can do anything and will totally shock you with what they pick up from observing us, the older kids. We really are role models for them; they remember everything you say and do with them, even those little things you wouldn’t think they could. This means though that the kids need appropriate teenagers to work with them who don’t use fowl language and act in a way that shows them right from wrong. I really think I am one of those people who are responsible enough and have the right attitude to go into this class. I have a great working ethic, I maintain the honor role while taking honors classes which show that I can handle all the work thrown at me and not become overwhelmed or stressed out.

I have learned a lot from being in child care and development this year and I would really like to take what I have learned and continue to use it through out next year and most likely even after high school. Taking the child care class next year would allow for me to increase my knowledge even more and see how much time, effort, and responsibility is really needed to be put in to be a teacher. I feel as though this class, although will be a huge responsibility will really help me to get the experience I need for later in life to continue working with young children. I am willing to step up and take on more responsibility, because this is something I really enjoy and would really like to be a part of.
