I would definitely follow up. It serves a couple purposes:

a) it lets them know you are still interested
b) it might give them a nudge if they are slow during the hiring process
c) it keeps your name fresh

I would end with something like "In the event I was not the successful candidate at this time I would be interested in discussing future opportunities with me. I was impressed with (and then interested some things you like about the company).
