Well I think this would be a great idea if it's something you want to do. Perhaps you could try taking just a course or two first to see how it goes? There was a time, perhaps 20 years ago now, when I toyed with the idea of pursuing a Ph.D. In retrospect, I think I'm just as glad I didn't. But that's just me. I think if you want to do it... go for it!
