I really like the melody, it's catchy. But, I didn't realize, until someone online pointed it out, that the song was actually based on an actual event (a shooting in 1979).

It's depressing enough that I'll put the rest in trigger quotes...

Possible trigger:

A 16-year old girl lived with her abusive, alcoholic father across the street from an elementary school. One afternoon, she just... started shooting at the kids and teachers on the playground. Apparently, when the press asked, "Why'd you do it?" she replied, "Eh, I don't like Mondays."

There's SO much that's sad here. Her living situation. The fact that she was relatively young herself. Obviously, shooting at little kids on a playground. The whole thing is just such a mess, so many messed up lives. It makes me sad in multiple dimensions. And, I hate that it kind of ruins the song for me.

I need to listen to happier music!

I learned about this song too and the background. Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction. I think it's interesting that her pathology presented in a more stereotypically male way...she became homicidal when depressed whereas girls and women are more often suicidal. If you look at the school shootings in the U.S. they are typically male perpetrators.
