The one time my daughter agreed to be brought in for stitches, I too wanted to avoid the ER or even the urgent care, so I called a plastic surgeon and she was (surprisingly) able to be fit in within a few hours with the plastic surgery Physician Assistant. He and especially the medical assistant were so, so kind. And he did a beautiful job stitching her up.

But, he did counsel her some about please using other coping mechanisms (and it was clear he didn't really understand cutting but was trying to be helpful), so if she does it again, I actually will be reluctant to bring her back there because she assured him she wouldn't do it again.
