I posted this on the newbie forum as well because I wasn't sure where I should post .. sorry!

my coworkers daughter is 19. Since meeting her bf, she has dropped out of school and moved in with him. He lives with a lady and her kid. He has no job or car. He was recently arrested for battery on an ex-gf (while with his current one), vandalism, and drug possession. He is now on probabation. The situation is, my friend's daughter is living with him a few houses up from her. The daughter is a victim of emotional and physical abuse. The other night the bf tried to choke her. He was pulled off by someone in the house. No one in the house called the police. The daughter will not call the police. I told my coworker to call adult protective services. She has not. She was told by the bf's probation office that it wouldn't do any good without a police report. I don't believe that. I feel strongly that APS would investigate. Even if it's all denied, there is a report AND he's on probation. My coworker says she has no idea how to help her daughter. The daughter comes home now and then after a fight but always returns to stay with the bf. any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. I don't know how to help her. A side note: the daughter is not even from a family of abusers!
