i was paralyzed in my left once when i had a stroke. i was 33 at the time. i pretty much shimmied up and down like a monkey. i don't know if that would help. i basically "crawl" on the stairs. i know what it's like with shoulder pain because my shoulder was like that from pulling myself up all the time. took months for it to heal. anyway, i hope this helps....
