Because you are worth trying for. Follow up tomorrow. You shouldn't have to work so hard to get help, but sometimes its the only way. I do think it is irresponsible for them not to get in touch with you and let you continue on when manic. Hopefully it will work out tomorrow. There's always the hospital if you need immediate help.
