ANGRY!

My best friend's husband is the organiser of a large fundraising dinner for Mental Health. I told her I was aware of the function and what a crying shame it was that those with mental health issues basically cannot attend. When asked why I pointed out that as many people with mental illness do not work they either rely on a limited assistance or had no income at all. She told me the event was a gala evening and that if you could not afford to attend you didn't deserve to be there. I was stunned. I told her at the very least the function should have representation of the very faces it was so called supporting. I suggested that the (large mining) corporation could have made tickets available by donation or subsidy to the mentally ill. She seems to think such an idea ridiculous.

On another note, this corporation apparently raises big money but nowhere can I find any description of where that money goes. The website goes on at length about supporting initiatives for Anxiety and Depression. Well, having operated the local Anxiety and Depression Support Group in the very city the organisation operates out of I can tell you that the group saw not a dime of it. And the group was the only group in the community.
