It's interesting how so many of us don't like the sound of our own voices when we hear a recording...I guess that's really common.
I think answering machines, the old style with tapes, helped a lot of people over 45 get past that initial "Oh my God! Is that how I sound?!". I can only speak for myself, but, it was because each time someone rang me, and before the internet cell phones, the landline rang a lot, you heard your own voice in the outgoing message. So after a year or two of cringing, it just became, "yeah, that's my voice...whatever"
