Yeah, I don't know what that was all about... I mean, I'm not expecting him to be like, "Wow, that song changed my life!" As I said to him, it's part of my inner world that I want to share with him. It's a different way of being vulnerable. I wish he could just be like "OK, let's give it a try." I know he's trying to be careful and is wary of letting me down, but...I mean, part of it is just wanting to give him a sort of point of reference when I mention a particular band. It's not like I'm talking about the Beatles or the Stones. Here is what The National sound like. If it was art or, say, a poem, I could just show him. And yeah, I could give him a lyric sheet. But it's not the same as hearing it all together. Even if he gets nothing out of it, I want to be like, "Here, this means something to me." I imagine he doesn't fully understand other stuff I talk about either.
