Fake caring occurs when people choose to care only if they think it "is the right thing to do" and can be discerned by figuring out if you actually can say "I want to help this person" with honesty when you find out the reason the person hurts and not having it clouded with anything else (such as "that's a stupid reason to be hurting that much" or "that person just wants attention"). If you can honestly say you want to help the person - you are legitimately caring. If you say you want to help but are either being dishonest or it is clouded by something like what i explained above or it is done simply bc it is what you have been told or taught is "right" and there is no real emotion behind it, then THAT would be "fake caring".
