I have no experience of support groups IRL either.

IRL, the mask is worn because when someone asks "How are you?" They don't really want to know how someone is feeling. Perhaps they sense we are wearing a mask and that is why the reject us. Being positive doesn't change our emotions in the same way as that of the average person. Emotions are trapped in layers in our recordings.

Society has come to believe that everyone should be positive and being negative is not acceptable. They see us as not trying hard enough and even responsible for our own fate.

At PC we have a space where others understand our profound need to emote.
