I play a lot of mindless-type videogames. The kind that don't take a lot of mental energy but a good amount of the mechanics to really enjoy and benefit. The two I am completely addicted to are Adventure Capitalist and Clicker Heroes. Both are a click-wait-click some more /idle game. Adventure Capitalist is nothing fancy -- you own "8 business" that collect money over time. All you do is click and upgrade your business for more gold, speed, and buy bonuses. Clicker Heroes is a similar, but more active and exciting variation. You kill monsters, collect gold, and try to get to the deepest level you can. What I like about that game is the soft-resets every so often. When it gets too hard, you start over but with a lot of benefits gained from the previous run. -- I feel ridiculous when I admit to people I play them, but I am so addicted to them lol.

Sorry, I know you asked about coping mechanisms and I just gave a plug for two games.. lol, but it's what I've been doing the past week. You can find them on Kongregate. They are absolutely free.
Thanks for this!
