Accept the thoughts. Because they're just thoughts. I have pure o with primarily sexual obsessions.

I use this practice and it has helped so far.

When they come say this in your head:

"Welcome to my head, here come sit at the table with all my other bad thoughts, introduce them to one another and invite them to be friends. Then tell the thoughts at the table you have to go because you've got important things to do."

Along with this be sure to resist your compulsive behaviors;

*Asking reassurance
*Internet scouring/searching
*Fact checking/life checking
*Avoidant behavior
*Dwelling on the thought, trying to find an answer.

** You won't EVER find the answer to why the thoughts exist or where they come from. It's junk mail.

Your obsessive mind makes you believe they have meaning; nothing more.

** Example: if you have thoughts about being gay, but have never wanted to be gay, and have always normally liked your opposite sex and pursued them; and more importantly it makes you distressed it's fear and anxiety manifestations.**

If your thoughts were coincident with who you are you'd be out there doing them; and furthermore you'd enjoy your thoughts.

Obsessing is not the same as fantasizing!

- I struggle with this stuff periodically.

- I started Zoloft and it helps me a lot.
