I once brought up to my CBT T that I didn't feel a session had been as good as an earlier one. He questioned my expectation that sessions will always have the same feeling. I also spoke about the upset I felt when a previously warm person suddenly seemed distant. Then too he examined this expectation that people have the same mood, or countenance on different occasions. I think this was immensely helpful for me. He himself was a consistently stable and calm presence in my life. On occasion he had to cancel a session due to other commitments. I would respond UNgraciously to this and he would thank me for my UNDERSTANDING

He was totally inconsistent in responding to emails. The idea was that I could write whatever and whenever to him but the likelihood of a reply was pretty low. However he also had a pager and would phone back in any emergency (these were usually me having a meltdown - having to speak to the operator probably cut down on how much I used it.)
