They fired the Director above me, who would have mentored me and led the overall strategy within the department, one month after I had started this job.
My current boss does not fully know my field, and has learned it on the job in the last 3 years. I have 8 years of experience in my field under my belt.
I am very frustrated that my boss doesn't understand or know strategies within my field.
So not only right now do I need to build a case with my client to pursue a strategy that will work over the course of a few months, I also have to build the case with my boss, who is clueless.
His strategy involves creating blog articles for the client, in order to drive traffic and potential customers to our client's website.
And my strategy involves raising rankings for the entire website, across the board, which will drive much more traffic and potential customers.
And how many visitors who read a blog article become an actual customer? Maybe 3/100??? I don't know the statistic.
But honestly, I am just beyond frustrated that they fired the Director and did not replace him with someone knowledgeable who could understand this field and provide leadership.
So here I sit on a Sat pissed off and annoyed. I am trying to shake it off, but it's really hard.
I was contacted by a major brand for a second interview.
Even though my company gave me expanded responsibilities to now include social media, I may jump ship.
I've been unhappy with the lack of leadership and mentorship. My boss is NOT an SEO person.. he is a former Web developer... so WHY is HE in charge of our entire SEO team?????
And I am the senior most person. I had taken this job so that I could LEARN from someone who knew a LOT more than me and from someone who had more years of experience than I do.
So screw it. I am going to pursue this other opportunity! Plus, it pays more than 10K more, which I could really use.
I don't think I could be happy in my job even if I move more towards social. I just don't see the proper leadership in place.
