Some people with bipolar disorder are more prone to rage than others, I believe. Rage was definitely a frequent symptom for me in all sorts of mixed episodes (mania with mixed features, hypomania with mixed features, depression with mixed features) and of course pure mania. In some of these states, I have also had anxiety mixed in. That often fueled the outbursts more.

Controlling my bipolar disorder has helped most. Obviously, medications are particularly important. Mastering (and using) CBT skills have also helped a lot. There are several. Just one to consider is preparing oneself for stressful situations in advance. For example, if someone is tailgating me, I now tell myself to pull over and let them pass, instead of road rage.

I used to call this raging state my "Tasmanian devil" state. I wrote about it in my blog in a story form, in a slightly poetic manner. If interested, let me know. I try not to list my blog entries here unless requested.
