I'm not sure if this is correct but can i choose to be grateful? Or does that make me seem really selfish?

It is something everyone should automatically be i guess but sometimes i am ashamed to admit life gets busy or the depression takes over and i begrude everything and i am not grateful.
I am going to make a further consertive effort to be grateful of my wonderful family and friends and for the opportunities and things i take for granted so often - e.g. things as simple as warm bed.
So if i may....i choose to be grateful.
