I was in that position, too, until there was a shake up in upper management. When the shake up happened, I was a hairs width away from quitting - after 10 odd years - because, ironically enough, I was getting closer and closer to what 'healthy' should look like. As long as I was in unhealthy thinking patterns, I could work with/for this person.

Quitting was not an easy choice to make - literally the day or two before I would have turned in my resignation, the higher up in question had a heart to heart with me that gave me the strength to keep going. How he knew I was so close to quitting, I will never fathom, because I kept my mouth shut and my head down.

It is a hard decision to make. Doing what is healthiest is rarely an easy choice, and all to often it is a 'choice' many of us do not have the relative luxury to make, especially in an economy where you can work full time for more than minimum wage and still be under the poverty line.
