I think your last sentence explains well what's happening. Some people are desperate to work and just apply to as many things as they can find, without much thought or resume tailoring. Glad you could vent here. It was annoying to have to go through those resumes, so after skimming and seeing that they didn't meet the requirements, I moved them quickly into the NO pile.

Of course, then we have the other side of the coin, my boss, who has decided to do the opposite, completely ignore the requirements in the job description and hire unqualified people. Grrrr!
Yeah, I think writing about it helped me understand my frustration. I get that people are just hitting apply to everything because they want a new job or job at all. (100% unemployment my arse.) I realized what is frustrating me is the unintended insult I feel when people do that because I've worked very hard to get where I am and paid all the dues and pushed to be the top of the game.

However, I have gotten a couple of promising resumes of people who actually do have the required skills, so it's not a total waste. But we have had the same problem of unqualified people being hired. Not so much for any nefarious reason but more so because for a while we were having trouble defining what this job was, but also, my boss was doing the hiring and I wasn't involved, and I really need to be the person who vets these people. It's difficult because she has a blind spot with hiring, and then she tries to pressure me to agree with her. And the last time I kind of got steamrolled over and then sort of got blamed for the disaster that ended up being. So I'm being very vocal this time around because I will not have another bad hire. If we don't feel 100% on this person, I'd rather NOT hire than have to spend more of my time dealing with someone's ********.
