Blood is thicker than water.
We have probably all heard this expression. The implication being that family (literally blood OR the family that raised you) is more important than and comes before anyone else. Do you agree or disagree?
Now for myself I completely disagree. My family has never been there for me when I needed them. Their typical behavior is showing up when they want something. I have one family member who is particularly toxic for me. He totes the above all the time, when he isnt making judgmental statements and telling me how to live my life. Keeping in mind that even though he is a closer relative blood wise, I do not feel connected to him at all.
My FAMILY are my closest friends. The people I can call to share happy news, in crisis or just to say hi. The ones who support me through my ups and downs. The people who give as much as they take, in balance. Blood or name means zero to me. It is about who you are and our relationship.
What about you?
