I find that every time I hit pain - my brain thinks it's impossible to bear - but in fact each time I build up habits that "comfort" me.
The most important is being patient with myself, suspending panic/ criticism, and being willing to take small steps = whatever works.
Put comfort in quotes because not what my brain sees as "comforting", but the kindness/ attention that some deep buried self needs.
