Distraction helps me a lot, I had to practice this for awhile to build the habit.

I sure can relate to the feeling of being addicted to those destructive thought loops. I had to figure out that I can't always think my way out, instead I have to do something different. Take a walk. Shower. Get immersed in a good book.
