It's definitely possible to become addicted to over the counter medication, both psychologically and physically.
Some of the signs of addiction are:
Constantly thinking about using or where the next drug is going to come from.
An inability to stop taking the drug.
Continued use despite negative consequences to the user.
Tolerance - or needing more of the drug to get the same effect.
Symptoms of physical withdrawl (varies by drug) but definitely having some usually unpleasant physical response when the drug is absent.
