Based on my reading of the forums and a little on my own experience, it seems to me a person has four basic approaches to unwanted, intrusive thoughts:
1. Attempt to silence the thoughts.
2. Attempt to ignore the thoughts.
3. Attempt to engage and challenge the thoughts.
4. Attempt to acknowledge the thoughts without challenging them with the hope or expectation the thoughts will dissolve.
What works for one, may not work for another. What works at one time, may not work at another time.
