Omg..... I know the ordeal of dealing with staffing and temp agencies, trust me! I feel your frustrations. Good for you for standing your ground and for sticking to your hourly and direct-hire standards and desires. I once had a temp agency try to trick me as well. I had been sexually harassed in a temporary-direct-hire position they placed me in, I chose to leave the role as a result of the harassment, so that very same day, the staffing agency shoved me into an interview for a role I was not even qualified to do! The hiring manager even asked after some time, "then what are you doing here?" The staffing agency wanted to quickly move me into another role, even if it was a bad fit, in order to distract me from pursuing a sexual harassment case!!!!!! SLIMY.

OH, and I have more stories than that, but I won't go into each one of them. All they mainly care about is filling roles and gaining their commissions. They certainly don't care about YOU, your requirements or your true interests.

That being said, there ARE some good recruiters out there.. I have found a few in my life. I hope you have far better luck and experiences with other agencies.
