Today, a "recruiter" wrote me an email in very broken-English claiming that they had a job for me and saw my profile on LinkedIn. They also left me a voicemail, also, spoken in very broken English. I googled the agency and its a legit IT/Accounting Employment Agency. What isn't legit, is this "recruiter" b/c she claimed she had an entry level tech writer job for me she needed my birthdate and social security and tax ID information for.
When I said "no!" to her requests for my personal information, she claimed that's how they do it at that employment agency. Having joined several temp agencies over the years, that is NOT how things are done. You are Onboarded with the temp agency by filling out all of their paperwork online which takes 1-2 hours. You do NOT use your SSN or birthdate to apply for jobs of any kind via temp agencies, so I felt like she was claiming to represent the temp agency but really wasn't associated. I have to call their office tomorrow vet her, but my gut tells me, she's a scammer.
Thanks Nxious for the info on LinkedIn's "easy apply" feature. I will definitely use that to apply for jobs online AND I will reformat my resume to meet the ATS tracking system requirements. God, who knew applying for jobs would be this much work!
