It's kind of traditional but I think nice pens are a nice gift. My brother gave me one, for my MBA graduation. He got me a Mont Blank pen, and I totally love it, and use it all the time. But I know they're expensive, but you can get really nice gold and silver pen / pencil sets from Cross that aren't too expensive.
Just a thought.
