I'm trying to be self-aware, yes.
One example would be the difference between 1st degree and 2nd degree murder or manslaughter. Instrumental aggression is usually deemed 1st degree murder, because it's "cold-blooded" and involves "malice aforethought." Aggression driven by emotion is usually deemed 2nd degree murder or manslaughter. It's "hot-blooded" and occurs in the heat of the moment.
And no, it isn't always clear where the line should be drawn.
