Sure there is purpose in happiness. We only have one life so I prefer to enjoy it.

Now some things we can’t control. Perhaps you can’t control your hate of your own body. Or your loneliness and boredom. But you hopefully can control your desire for unattainable things. That’s why I asked for the purpose of you wanting things that can’t happen. It causes you suffering. Unless you enjoy suffering what’s the point?
We seem to be speaking past each other a fair bit - I really don't think I'm being understood, which I accept as my own communication failure.

By answering that the purpose of happiness is to enjoy life I think it clear that we are playing different language games here.

I think it best we simply agree to disagree rather than go round in circles.

I feel that ageing, death, diseases, unattractiveness etc are non-desirable things that cannot be prevented, and I emotionally desire they didn't happen, and the fact they do is an uncontrollable, though totally logical, irritation. Choosing to unhealthily dwell on that irritation is futile and would be a poor choice, but the base irritation and sadness that comes from awareness of the human condition is not a choice - it's just being human.

I don't believe desire, in the way I'm using the word, is something chosen or controlled. It is an emotion - a simple 'I want' urge. This cannot be removed, I think.
