Very often these days it seems. It's odd that you I should find this thread today, I was thinking very similiar thoughts. I'll read the forums and it becomes harder and harder to be supportive.

I'm a firm believer in personal responsibility. If you don't own your mistakes and learn from them, you're bound to repeat them. Definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.

I know I've found it helpful for an outside source to give me a different perspective, sympathy with a big dose of reality; but not everyone wants to acknowledge that there is a big white elephant in the room let alone how to care for it.
