I have been doing emdr for about 2 years now. I know many people who have used it successfully. For me it is slow going. My T says that the more trauma you had at a young age, the longer it will take. It also doesn't help that I have DID and I dissociate alot. T says that EMDR processing stops when I dissocuate so we have to go slow and stop to bring me back and ground me whenever I go down the hole. Also it doesn't help that my memories of trauma are locked in different parts of me. So it is slow but I have seen progress.

It is definitely worth a try and should be successful relatively quickly unless you have issues like I do. Even so, there is still hope that it will work, just slower. You also want to be sure that you are seeing someone fully trained, especially if you tend to dissociate.
