I don't treat myself the way you do. I just wait for the feeling to pass by distracting myself.
My hobbies are pretty technical, so there's lots of thinking involved, and there's nothing to buy for them. I can just do my thing. Plus there's lots to do around the house so I just pick something off a long list and do it until I'm tired or the feelings pass. If I'm too depressed to do anything I just watch Netflix or TV.
Problem is that often these feelings last for weeks to months so there's been lots of time in front of the TV.
