For pasta and rice, you can get whole-wheat, which is more healthy for you. I love my pasta... and anyone who suggests cutting down to protect my health (because I'm probably hypoglycemic, but refuse to get tested) will be very much in trouble.
Try cutting out some of the obvious sugars (chocolate - you can have some dark though) and any high fat/high sugar deserts.
Watch how much juice you drink as well... even natural fruit sugars in excess are bad for you. Drink more water... cut down on the amount of sugar/additives in your coffee/tea.
Try for foods that require more effort by your body to break down, so that way the blood sugar doesnt "spike" as much.
I'm trying to cut down on my sodium/sugar/fat intake so I understand your pain.
