I started the allotment group on Wednesday. I had been hesitating over doing it because the allotment is a little way from the day centre and i was scared of getting lost getting there(I am not good when it comes to directions especially in unfamiliar places). I went down with the two people running the group by bus and found the route was more straightforward than i thought(not twists and turns and lots of turn left turn right etc to confuse me). When the weather is nicer it's within walking distance of where i live - 45-50 minutes leisurely stroll.
Spent the two or so hours i was down there 'twitching'(no not that kind of twitching!)ie helping to get rid of the twitch grass(which apparently is what they call a couch grass). The plot we have got is inundated with the stuff as it had not been used for years before the allotment group started up.
The best we can hope to do is get rid of much of it as possible as rooting out all of it is just too overwhelming a task. Shirley's husband said it would take a few years to thoroughly eradicate the twitch. It's definitely not something to do if you are overly OCDish.
I quite enjoyed myself alibi i was finding myself getting a little woozy
from the constant bending down and standing up(a touch of postural hypotension methinks).
Surprisingly my back held up quite well considering i'm not used to doing much in the way of manual work and i'm quite prone to unexpected muscle spasms. However i felt physically a little out of sorts/run down afterwards(like the 6- 24 hour fluey kind of thing i can get when emotionally stressed{somatic reaction}).
I am not surprised at this as it's not unusual for me to feel this way when i've done (for me) quite a lot of exercise/physical type work.
That won't put me off going next week though as i'll be right as rain well before then.
