Not knowing the type of class/program structure it is hard to comment. But, I would think you have a right to NOT have someone sit in on a meeting with a director. I would let the "friend" know you feel that the behavior was intrusive.
And I would talk privately with the director to discuss this----let that person get to know you a bit better re: what your goals are, how you like to work etc.
Whatever happens do not be afraid to follow your own path---especially if your job/s depend on creativity. Hang in there.
My rule for myself is that if I tell someone something, what they do with it is their business, I hate to ask others to keep what I say to themselves but sometimes that is the right thing to do (or have someone who is not in the program you can feel comfortable using as a sounding board...)
