Hey, @
Lavenderlilly. Sorry about your engagement. That must be quite difficult. Also pretty much totally alone here. Living alone, as well. which just compounds the issue. Wasn't always this way for me. Had a very successful business and everything that comes with that. Family. The whole thing. But everybody (except a very, very few) bailed when I got super-psychotic in 2007. They were just there one day, gone the next. They never came back. Just tossed me.
I haven't done meetup, though it is available here. There def should be one in Cleveland somewhere. That is a good place to meet folks, I think. We also have some other support group type-things for various types of issues and mental illnesses and that can be a good potential spot to interact with folks who have been through something similar. I have had very good luck meeting people at yoga over the years. Not sure if you're into yoga. Maybe look into it. It's generally a fairly solid group of people. If you have any other hobbies, there is most likely some kind of group that meets somewhere to either discuss that hobby or to do it in a city like yours. Not sure what your take is on art, but I know some people who have volunteered at various museums. There is a whole world of people who do that sort of thing and love it and many of them are educated and interesting. There are certainly folks to be met doing that. And lastly, there is the whole animal thing. Volunteering at a shelter or a rescue place would introduce you to that community and its neat people.
Just a few thoughts. Obviously, there are all the 8 zillion websites for meeting people but it seems there is a lot of scamming that goes on there. I stay away. Hang in there. When I had an engagement broken off, it took awhile before I felt like a human again. It gets better. Just don't give up.
