I find philosophy therapeutic when it helps me use my creative thinking skills to tackle moral dilemmas, understand diversity issues, understand myself better when I hold or don't hold a position, etc. For instance, although I don't know much about philosophy, when I read topics on altruism, care ethics, and egoism (or was it egotism? I keep getting egoism and egotism mixed up), I can better understand those who were parentified, and I can also understand the complex nature for which altruism could include aspects of egoism (e.g., caring for others while also caring for yourself, but in a different way), and for which egoism includes aspects of altruism for the self (a belief that hold that someone taking care of themselves would inadvertently influence others to do so as well). There are always arguments for and against, but I find reading philosophy helps me to understand the differences in others better. Reading up on fallacies also helps me after an argument - to see where my argument was faulty and perhaps see where the other person's argument was faulty. Philosophy sometimes helps. Psychology is based on philosophy, too, by the way.
