I have done remote (over the phone) therapy for years, but that is a private therapist and I find it as helpful as face-to-face generally.
I've also done betterhelp, talkspace and 7 cups. I've had mixed results. When I am reasonably OK (as in not super depressed or having an acute trauma response), I liked it and found it somewhat helpful, depending on the therapist. Just like face-to-face they vary in competency and some I just liked more than others. It seemed more like a journal that I got someone to respond to in those cases. However, when I was having a lot of mood problems or anxiety, I didn't find it all that good. The delay in response bothered me. The other problem I had was that in writing it is sometimes difficult to judge "tone." Since one of my issues is thinking that people are mad at me or invalidating me, especially when I'm depressed, this caused problems. I'd get upset about something they would say and then email an angry response. Then wait for a response from them and maybe it would seem hurtful or maybe it would be OK. It's not like I don't have those problems in face-to-face therapy as well, but it seems like they get worked out faster.
