That is what my mother said while I was growing up. Of course, at the time I didn't give it much thought. Now...well I face this every day. Things I am dealing with: Being unemployed at 58 (though I have two master degrees), being in huge debt from college degrees, possibly glaucoma in left eye go back end of January to find out for sure. I have 3-4 months to make major changes in a diet because I am considered pre-diabetic. I have Lumbar Spinal Stenosis causing my leg to be weak and gives me some issues with balance noticeable. only on days where it is really bad. This is really limiting me in what type of jobs I can apply for. Getting an MRI done soon and then also have an appointment with a pain management place. High blood pressure. Need some major dental work but can't afford it and insurance (medicare) does not cover it. The list is endless. Mom was right you really DO need to be strong to get older.
