This is great news, Blueberrybook! So many positives to this medication addition! Though Lithium was not my wonder medication, I know a lot of people who've said it was. I also know a couple of people that benefited a lot even from smaller doses (not quite therapeutic doses). I hope you will continue to experience these positives.

Lithium was very weight neutral for me. I'm not sure if it put on any water weight, but if it did, it wasn't that much. A couple things about Lithium that I was told early on was that I should drink plenty of water, and not make any major changes to my salt intake. I mention these two things specifically because they may be factors in water retention. I imagine drinking more water would seem to cause water retention, but that is not usually the case. Usually just the opposite. Plus, drinking lots of water is just plain important with Lithium, even if you start to experience an increased need to urinate.

As for salt intake, remember that Lithium is a type of salt. If you tend to be a very low or high salt eater, you may want to mention that to your psychiatrist, but again, I wouldn't make any major changes to salt consumption without discussing that. Honestly, if your water retention is very noticeable, you may want to give your psychiatrist a call and let him know.

Thanks for sharing that you are doing better!
